How do I set up an item promotion to show at the line level without using a separate discount line?

I'd like to offer widgets at $26.81 instead of the regular $28.81 ($2 flat rate discount) without using a separate discount line as that means reports will always show the regular price even if revenue is accurately reported. This is the SO example for what I've written so far…

I'd like the item line to rate show $26.81 and get rid of the second line altogether. is this possible?
