.sdf file for cli

I'm experimenting with SDF CLI and noticed that the .sdf file doesn't seem to be used by the listfiles command? Is that expected? it seems I must set -account, -email, -url, etc via the command line.

Is my .sdf file in the wrong location? It is in the current working directory when I run sdfcli (along with the rest of the project structure generated by the new project script)
