Web Services with Java - Axis2?

Netsuite recommends using Apache Axis 1.4 for webservices (which we are using) - however it seems to me that the development effort on that project is mostly in the Axis2 and that the Axis 1.x series is now at best in maintenance mode.

Has anyone used Axis2 with Netsuite or know if Axis2 is compatible?
