Search for all child items

I'm using the PHP Toolkit and the multiple nsComplexObjects of some search type are driving me crazy. I just want to search for all items that have a parent with an internalId of xxx.

What I have to start with is the parent matrix item internalId and I want to get all of the matrix items that go with it.
