Client or User Event script for field validation?

I need to validate the line item location field on SO's.  I need to do it on save as it's critical these aren't left blank.  I know there is a global netsuite setting for making location mandatory but that won't work for us. 

I've done client side save record functions, but never used user event scripts for field validation.  My question is, would there be any benefit to using the user event for field validation?  Is it easy to cancel the record submit if the user did leave a location field blank with the user event script?
