Conditionally hide a subtab in the BeforeLoad function of a User Event script

I have a subtab on a case record that contains several sublists. I want to conditionally hide the subtab and all its contents within a BeforeLoad function of a User Event script. I realize I could simply make a copy of the form without the subtab but I have reasons for not doing that.

The only subtab properties I see are setTitle and setHelp. Does anyone know of a trick to make the tab go away?
