Trying to extract or calculate the Subtotal for invoices that excludes taxes and freight.

I am very new to javasript and NetSuite formulae.  I a trying to extract or calculate the Subtotal for invoices that excludes taxes and freight.

I tried using {netamount}-{shippingamount}-{taxtotal}, but if shippingamount or taxtotal is null, my SavedSearch returns no value.

How do I compensate for null values in the fromula {netamount}-{shippingamount}-{taxtotal} ?
