Create a Client with Multiple Subsidiaries

Hello, my question has to do with creating clients in NetSuite and assigning one client multiple subsidiaries. I have no issue with this with the vendors I create. Why is it that I can not assign multiple subs to one client / customer? Do i really have to create multiple clients / customers across all subsidiaries?
