Problem accessing inventoryItem quantity via REST

Hi, I'm having a problem accessing the inventory item quantity via REST. I've checked that we do indeed have a location and quantity on hand for the item in question via the web GUI. But then when I make my request I get back no locations.

any idea why this might be happening? I have the role permissions set to view both items and locations. Thanks in advance!
