Modifing subsidiary hierachy and consequence for historical data

A customer of ours has a company structure which changes once a year.

In NetSuite it is possible the modify the subsidiary hierarchy. Our customer wants to know what happens with the history when changing the subsidiary. Can the history before the modification still been shown in reports based on the old hierachy? Main question is what happens with the historical data when the subsidairies has been changed?
