Including Invoice Last Paid Date on Customer Statement

I want to use the date that an invoice was last paid to control the invoices that are displayed on a Customer Statement i.e.

So if an invoice is paid this month it should be displayed even if the invoice now has an amount outstanding that is zero.

I cannot find a method to find the last applied transaction date against an invoice and display/use this on a customer statement in Advanced HTML/pdf editor. I can add a custom property to the invoice but then will need to have a script to update the last transaction date as only stored custom sales properties can be displayed on the statement
