using landed cost templates to estimate landed cost

I have landed cost templates created and assigned to items, and estimated landed cost checked on the items on the receipt transaction, and I am not seeing any calculation of landed cost or any GL impact for the accounts selected in the templates. Can anyone expand on the process of creating the purchase order and creating the receipt such that these templates are read to calculate the estimated cost and put the amounts in the designated holding accounts?
