How to set Department to pre-populate on Invoice?

Hi NS Experts,

How can a Standalone Invoice inherit the Department Number? We tried adding Department Number on the Item and used that item on Standalone Invoice but the Invoice is not inheriting/pre-populating it from Item record. In which NS Object can be permanently store the department to make sure the Invoice uses that department only? TIA
