How to create Blanket PO or Purchase Contracts for Drop Ship items?

I have been asked to look into Blanket PO's and Purchase contracts to see if they still allow Drop Shipping.

From what I have read and the results of testing it does not seem possible as it does not provide the option to link a Sales Order.

Has anyone got a useable workaround / custom solution they can advise?

I am now wondering if setting up a Parent / Child Record might work to act as a Contract with the Sales Orders as the Child record but I am not sure if that would work?
