How to print "Display Name/Code" on Sales Orders?

I am building an advanced PDF template for Sales Orders and want to present the Display Name/Code instead of the item name. When I add one item to the Sales Order this works correctly, but when I add more than one item to the Sales Order all item rows show the Display Name of the first item even though the Display Name of items 2+ are different. Why is this happening?
