Remittance advice posting for EDI

Has anyone received payment/remittance advice via EDI to handle posting the payment? We receive payments that cover multiple invoices and the automated cash posting is only right about 80% of the time. If we can get the remittance advice for these customers, can we use that data to apply the cash correctly?
