How "ingroup" and "groupsetup" works in Sales Order Line Items?

I need assistance in understanding why some line items in the Sales Order have the "ingroup" value set to true while others have the "group setup" value set to false.

We have a scenario where our PDF templates are configured to print sales order line items with "ingroup" set to true and "group setup" set to false.

Is there any standard functionality involved in this? Could you please help us identify it?
