New to NetSuite | Advanced Taxes: Canada Tax Lookup Hierarchy
Building on our previous discussion about Canada’s tax determination logic, this article explores how the tax lookup hierarchy operates when using Advanced Taxes in Canada. We’ll examine the step-by-step process that NetSuite follows to identify the appropriate tax code for a transaction.
NetSuite first checks the Tax Item field on the customer record. If a tax group is specified in this field, the system applies the customer’s designated tax group to the transaction items.
If the Customer record’s Financial tab has Tax Item = null and the PST Exempt box is unchecked, NetSuite then evaluates the shipping address on the transaction record. Specifically:
