Transaction creation

Is it possible to trigger the creation of a new transaction (Invoice) from a custom record using workflow, and then populate a field on the custom record (the workflow was initiated from) with a link to the newly created Invoice?

At the moment this is achieved manually but a workflow like this would save all kinds of record hopping.

It seems that the Create Record action should let me do this but it doesn't appear to have "Transaction" as a record type. I get closer with the Go To Record Action but can't populate the transaction.
