Make workflow transition to another state with script

Does anyone know of a way to make workflow transition to another state by using script?

Here is my use scenario: I have a script, which depends on the current state of a specific workflow. It performs some actions which can't be replaced by workflow action script or default workflow actions. When its done performing those actions, I would like workflow to transition to another state. Any ideas on how to do this?
