Accounting Hire Best Practice

I am looking to add to my staff a beyond bookkeeper to assist the VP of Finance in transactions. 

I want to find a emerging bookkeeper with netsuite experience but I might not have that in my area.  I was wondering if anyone can speak to what software packages are similar to netsuite so that I can gain some transferrable skills and not have to train or unlearn past experiences?
