Classes or parent / child records for products
I am trying to work out the best way to classify our business that comprises several business groups each producing a range of products that are classified under a three or four level hierarchy. For example the Communications group make phones and fax machines, then we have sub categories of phones - say mobile / fixed etc.
I believe the business groups should be classified as classes.
My question is should the product hierarchy be built as a series of custom records with parent / child relationships or is it better to use sub-classes for the hierarchy. Is there a recommended best practice here ? or pros / cons that can be easily described ?
