Make an item perform both like a kit and like a regular inventory item
Lets say that we make signs. A sign has one major component and that is the "sign blank" or the piece of metal or plastic that the design is printed on.
So, we've done this workflow successfully in the past.
a.
Make an inventory item called 12" x 12" sign blank. Then, we stock those blanks in our warehouse.
b.
for each new standard 12"x12" sign, we create a kit that consists of one 12" x 12" sign blank. We name that new kit whatever is to be printed on that sign. So, if the sign reads "Danger, Electrical Hazard", we name the kit "Danger, Electrical Hazard" and make it appear like a real standard sign in our web store.
