Workflow Documentation

Inherited system with a bunch of workflows (for example, 40 active against Sales Orders, mix of scheduled and user event).

Anybody come up with a good method of documenting workflows (for my own sake and so I can present conditions to users to cull out obsolete)?

Can't seem to dump workflow actions, transitions etc via a Saved Search.
Have discovered I can save a lot of typing by opening a Work Order Actions screen, grab the rows and columns (Ctrl-C) and Paste Special into a spreadsheet as Text.
The result is "usable" after some reformatting (and transposing the headings to columns).
