Inconsistent behavior of saved searches

Most of my customers are just customers in Netsuite.  However, for my largest accounts, I have a master account set-up as a customer with subcustomers.  For these large accounts, no transactions are booked at the customer level - all transactions are booked at the subcustomer level.  I also have a custom record which is a child to my customer records.

When I look at the transactions tab on the master customer, I can see transactions for all the subcustomers - this is great.  For each subcustomer, I can see its transactions on the transactions tab of the subcustomer record - this is also great.
