Items unavailable -- system maintenance message

We have discovered a couple of items that we edited today are displaying this message when you try to view them on our site.

These are existing items and we were able to look at them earlier today. Nothing we do can bring them up again.  This occurs on multiple computers, browsers, users, etc. They show up in item list view in categories and in searches, but you cannot drill down to the item record.
