custom formula field error in sublist view

I created a custom CRM field to calculate the duration of an event and added to the Event form using a Decimal field type:
({endtime}-{starttime})*24

The field functions correctly on the Event form.  For example, an Event starting at 2:00 and ending at 5:00 results in a value of 3.

However, when adding the custom field to a custom sublist view of Activities on the Project form, it returns:
ERROR: Field Not Found

Does anyone know what's amiss?
