Sandbox timeouts

Any workarounds for our Sandbox consistently timing out on searches? Even bringing up an item profile takes up to 5 minutes (for a single item!).

This makes development problematic and seriously expensive. In fact, it sort of makes the whole point of a sandbox moot. I can't test a script that queries customers because it will timeout 100%. Works fine in live. Sandbox was Just reset so data is all identical. Issue existed before and after.
