Auto Generated Numbering Sequence For Sales Orders

This morning, when we entered our first S/O, the numbering sequence had changed from 498188 (our next number) to 830116060033002 (the number that came up for this S/O.  I reset the numbers to the correct one, but I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else, or if anyone has any insight on how this happened.
