matrix item -different MPN code and item number

For matrix items, we want to show different MPN or Item Name (we use as order number) for each sub item depending on which one is chosen. 

However, our website developer told us the current setup of netsuite allows to show only the MPN or Item Name of the parent item.  It means although the subitem the customers choose has a different MPN or Item Name, no such code can be shown on the webstore.

does anybody know how to deal with this issue?  or Can Netsuite improve this?
