Global Search weirdness

Has something changed in the way global search returns results?  In the pre-2014.2 release, entering an item name into the global search box generally returned the inventory item record as one of the first few results; since 2014.2 it doesn't even appear in the results list unless you either 1) click on the 'More results' link; or 2) prefix it with INV:.  Either way, my sales people absolutely hate the way it works now.

I've looked for a way to modify how these results are presented, but haven't found anything.  Is this even possible?
