UPS changes weight calculation - dimensional weight more prominent
April 5, 2013
We just noticed that UPS is billing much higher than the actual weights on small shipments due to the change in dimensional weight calculations.
http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/ship/packaging/dim_weight.html
UPS domestic shipments: Divide the cubic size in inches by 166 to determine dimensional weight in pounds. Increase any fraction to the next whole pound.
 now all our small packages that weigh less than 1 lb are dimensional weight of 2-3 lbs.
Netsuite really needs to add to the item records the cubic dimensions so that a more accurate shipment fee can be assessed when using UPS as carrier.
