Left Hand Navigation Disappears on Cart Page

We have our site working perfectly except for one thing that makes no sense.

The left hand navigation disappears on the cart page that a customer is redirect to after they add a product to their cart.

The left hand navigation also disappears when a customer clicks "View Cart" from the cart summary area in the left hand navigation.

However, the left hand navigation stays put if the customer clicks on our direct link to the cart which we hand coded using this link:
https://checkout.netsuite.com/s.nl?c=582326&sc=4

What the heck? How do I get the left hand navigation to stay visible at all times?
