matrix items not displaying - HELP

Whenever I put a matrix item into a category NetSuite is not displaying them on the site in the category page or on the detail page.  I have no idea why the items do not display... there must be a setting somewhere that is causing this.  I'm in the process of having a designer set up our website for the first time and we are stuck - can anybody help????
