How to insert date in detailed desciption

I want to insert code to display the current date in some of my detailed description boxes. I found a javascript method, which I ended up using, but I hate to keep adding javascript all over the place if it's not neccessary. It seems like there should be a simple way to insert that easily using a NetSuite tag, but I just can't figure it out.

While we're at it, is there way to also insert a dynamic "days remaining" number based on subtracting today's date from some date in the future? (like this, "Today is Thursday, December 14. There are
