Item Category that matches Web Site Category

I tried to search the User Group & Enhancement Requests to see if this has been requested but failed to find anything so I submitted Enhancement Request Case # 518083.

We would like to see a new category option directly at the Item Record Level that is tied to the Web Site Category.  This would allow for greater organization within NS and also have internal/external viewing of items mirror one another. 

Currently, you have to create placeholder (phantom) items to act as Item Categories and then make your actual items a Subitem of the placeholder item.  There are number of issues with these parent items such as being able to enter them on transactions and trying to update/maintain item records.  You also have to choose Site Category beneath the Store Tab to have the item appear correctly within your store.
