Shopping cart - not listing options

When our customers order - they can  select size and color option.

When selecting from the thumb nail pic the options selcted show up in the cart and go forward.

When the thumb nail is enlarged - the selction and color option are made by the customer, but do not show up in the shopping cart

Any ideas why the thumb nail works and the pop up large pic does not transfer the option to the shopping cart?

Is it possible that the large pop up can not be used for selection of the options.?
