Matrix Item Import Update?

We are getting ready to setup a large number of items using the matrix capability.  I wanted to check and see if any progress has been made regarding the ability to flag items on a .CSV import as matrix items, or convert into matrix items once in the system. I have read numerous posts on this topic from early last year, and was hoping this has been addressed in some way, or a work around devised so we don’t have to manually set up hundreds of items by hand.  Thanks for your help.
