On Special - web error processing pricelevel1 tag

Clicking "On Special" on an item correctly puts in on the specials page.  However, I am getting the following:

[Error processing dynamic tag getCurrentAttribute('item','pricelevel1') : attribute 'pricelevel1' not found]

pricelevel1 (base price) is correctly entered and appears correctly (base price & online price) on the category pages, and other pages.  But doesn't resolve on the actual webpage.

Any ideas?  If everyone had this problem, I assume there would have been something on this board.

ps: we do use quantity pricing, if that makes a difference.
