Is there a way to have Newly Added Items on the Welcome Page

I used to use osCommerce and on the front landing page there is a section titled NEW Items Added this month.

Can I get that on the Welcome Page for NS?

Essentially on the Welcome page I would like three sections visible as soon as the customer hits the page:

Newly Added items this month
Featured Items
Specials
