How does web store customer list display in NetSuite?

My company is considering using NetSuite to manage our new web store.  Up until we have been primarily a wholesaler without a web store, and our NetSuite customer list has been relatively small.  If we open up a web store and sell to the general public, will our "small" customer list suddenly grow to thousands of entities?  Or when retail customers order from the NetSuite web store, are their names & addresses stored someplace else besides the regular NetSuite customer list?
