new item

I'm trying to create a new item, as usual, and when I click "save" I get "There is already an item with that name.
. Go back, change the name and resubmit."

even though there is no item with that name.  I've tried naming "wxyz" for example and still get the same error message.  This happened yesterday too, but after a few tries it finally accepted a new item.  Not today...
