Turn off Search Portlet in Customer Center?

We have created a Presentation tab and categories in our customer center.  On the left is a search portlet above the navigation portlet.  I don't want a search portlet, however, I can't seem to find a place to turn it off.  We do not have Sitebuilder or Advanced Web Customization. 

The checkboxes in the Setup Website Appearance for the Show Search portlet are off, yet the search portlet still appears in the customer center.

Any ideas how to turn this off?
