Cannot add bookmarks for the password protected site

Hello friends,
I know it is strange but i am having a webstore which is password protected and whenever a customer after logging in stores the URL for a particular item(in fact any page other than the home page) as a bookmark and then when he returns back (in a new session) he sees a login form on that bookmarked page.
Till here it is fine, but the customer cannot login with this page,
He will always see Password is wrong and with the same password he can however login through the index page. I am not able to figure out why?
