Related Items in Search different than using Navigation Bar

It appears that when I search for an item using the search box on our website when it finds the item and I click on it it will shows the related items but with thumbnails. However if I use the navigation bar on the left side of our website and drill into the item the related items show as text without the thumbnails which is much cleaner. How can I get the search box related items to work like the navigation bar?
