Best selling items and new items

Did a search but couldn't find anyone else asking so this is either right in front of my face or its not obvious how to do it...

I run store that reproduce t-shirt worn by musicians (www.wornfree.com) and I'd like to put the 5 best selling shirts (taken from a sample of say... 1 month) from the webstore, not wholesale since it would skew figures, automatically.

I can obviously create a dynamic search to arrive at my parent matrix items but linking that search to a template list/cell is another matter..
Any idea how one might go about this...
