cart abandonment - let's talk

80% of the people who add to cart do not buy from me
40% of the people who get to checkout stage do not buy from me

Now I have a music store and no wish list etc. and surely a bunch of teens hoping mommy and daddy might buy for them but that shouldn't account for the checkout #'s.

I'd have to assume that's pretty high. What's the reason?

How typical is this?
