using CNAME with Network Solutions

edited Feb 5, 2009 3:03PM in Web Site / E-Commerce 4 comments

In Sept, per Netsuite's request, we modified our domain routing in Network Solutions from A Record to CNAME.  Soon after we started to receive reports from IE users that they could not access our domain via ourdomain.com, but only via www.ourdomain.com.  Unfortunately we weren't able to look into it until more recently.  Netsuite verified that our domain settings are correct, and suggested we open a case with Network Solutions.  Network Solutions said "Please be advised that you cannot set up a CNAME record for ourdomain.com. Instead of CNAMEs, you need to create an A record for it, that points to the IP address of your Web site. Please ask your Web hosting provider for the IP address so that you can configure this as an A record."

Howdy, Stranger!
