Affiliate Marketing Question

What are the pros and cons of providing a data feed to your affiliates?  What can they utilize the data feed for?  Please be specific as I am trying to understand why I would share my product information with an affiliate instead of them just placing my banner on their site. 

Also, what information would a data feed be required to have?
