Tabs and Categories

I am slowly starting to finally get a grasp on NS (I think). As some of you may or may not have noticed I am a new person to this. So here is my question

Say you have Tab 1 and Tab 2. If you make a category under tab 1 can it also be under tab 2? I see under the category record that it says subcategory of tab 1... so does that mean there can be only one?
